SimLab has officially named their debut direct drive wheelbase the Simlab DDX TorqueSync, with full unveiling planned for October 17th at SimRacing Expo in Dortmund. The wheelbase will launch in two configurations, one with 26Nm and an industry-leading 39Nm model. Something we weren’t expecting as the original teasers claimed it would hit 35Nm’s.
Cockpit Maker Goes Direct Drive
The DDX TorqueSync represents Sim-Lab’s expansion from their established cockpit business into wheelbases. The Dutch company has already produced high-end steering wheels, such as the replica Mercedes F1 wheel they made in collaboration with the F1 team, demonstrating their precision hardware capabilities.
The wheelbase has appeared at multiple events since its prototype debut, including Sim Gaming Expo and content creator sessions, suggesting extensive testing and development.
39Nm Industry Leader
The 39Nm variant positions the DDX TorqueSync at the extreme high end of consumer direct drive systems, potentially exceeding most premium competitors. Sim-Lab promises a “raw” force feedback experience with all of they new DDX wheel bases while targeting maximum immersion for enthusiasts.
Teaser images reveal a unique quick release system and LED ring near the steering shaft, suggesting customizable lighting features for shift points or visual feedback.
October Launch Strategy
The October 17th unveiling at SimRacing Expo provides maximum exposure to the sim racing community. However, this puts Sim-Lab entering a crowded market with established players and recent newcomers.
The Bottom Line
The Simlab DDX TorqueSync’s 39Nm specification is impressive and the 26Nm variant is still more than enough power for almost everyone, but practical benefits over existing high-torque systems remain unproven.
Sim-Lab’s cockpit expertise could provide integration advantages, though success depends on execution and pricing against refined competitors when the full unveiling arrives in October.
