Fanatec CSL Elite Porsche Vision GT Released

Fanatec Releases The new CSL Porsche Vision GT Wheel.

Is the Fanatec Porsche Vision GT wheel the perfect mix of form and function, or does its price undermine the value?

After Fanatec unveiled the CSL Porsche Vision GT back in 2024, it looked exceptionally promising. Inspired by the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo concept car, it looks sleek, and modern. At the time it looked like it would be a very compelling offer given the price history of the CSL lineup of products. Now that it’s released, how does the Vision GT fair and is it something you should consider purchasing?

For starters, most would have expected it to be cheaper than it was on release. In the United States the Vision GT wheel launched at a shocking $439.99. Typically products released under the CSL line of products are budget minded products, rarely crossing much over $300.

The $439 price point is far more inline with Fanatec’s more feature rich Clubsport line up products, specifically the Clubsport Steering Wheel V2.5.

Unlike those wheels, this new Porsche Vision GT wheel only features the budget oriented QR2 light, a plastic quick release that doesn’t feel befitting of the $439.99 price tag.

When put in comparison with the Clubsport Steering Wheel V2.5 at $449.99, the Vision GT Struggles. The CSW V2.5 wheel features the higher quality QR2 that is made from aluminum and features a carbon fiber front plate. By comparison the Vision GT’s plastic body with an aluminum inner structure.
Some users have noted that the wheel’s construction leans heavily on plastic components, which might not meet everyone’s expectations for a product in this price range.

Now there are some upsides, the wheel has a striking design, and a far less toy feeling 310mm when compared to the Clubsport V2.5’s narrow 270mm.

The wheel is equipped with a plethora of inputs, eight push buttons, seven rotary encoders (including two 12-position switches),

and an obligatory signature 7-way Funky Switch.

The magnetic shifters provide a satisfying tactile response, though they are notably loud, which for many of us such as myself who lives in an apartment can be a major concern.

While the wheel is compatible with both PC and PlayStation platforms, certain features, like the OLED display and some rotary encoders, have limited functionality within specific games like Gran Turismo 7.

The new “Tactaris” synthetic suede material is also a positive, it offers a soft touch, aiming to replicate the feel of Alcantara while boasting improved durability when compared to authentic Alcantara.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Fanatec CSL Elite Porsche Vision GT wheel stands out with its distinctive design and array of features. However, potential buyers should weigh its aesthetic appeal against practical considerations like build materials, functionality across consoles, and overall value.

It’s a product that may resonate with Porsche enthusiasts and those seeking a unique addition to their sim racing setup, but it might not be the universal upgrade some are looking for.

On the surface it seems like a great second, maybe 3rd rim for someone to add to their collection, but it is far from a budget minded product that offers great value on the surface. If you’re in the fanatec eco system or elsewhere we think there are far better options for the price if you’re chasing value.
